Policy and Advocacy

Rural Health Workforce Australia advocates for better ways of meeting the health workforce needs of rural and remote Australia.

We share our views through evidence-based policy advice to the Australian Government's Department of Health and we collaborate with others who share our commitment to making healthcare more accessible for rural and remote people.

We also make submissions to and appear at parliamentary hearings, as well as health sector forums.

Each year, for example, we convene the Dental Research Exchange, which promotes information sharing across the dental sector with a focus on refining policy advice to government.

One of our strengths is the local knowledge of our Rural Workforce Agency members.

Their frontline experience over many years has led to a comprehensive understanding of what makes health professionals choose to stay and work in rural areas,

Our connection to the National Rural Health Student Network means we can also offer insights for policy makers into what matters to the future health workforce.

RHWA also produces a range of evidence-based materials, including fact sheets and research reports, on Australia's rural health workforce.
