Rural GP Temporary Placement SchemeThis program, also referred to as the Rural Locum Relief Program, allows Permanent Resident doctors to work as GPs in rural and remote areas while they are working towards their GP Fellowship. It particularly applies to Overseas Trained Doctors who have permanent residency or citizenship of Australia; and who have not yet attained Fellowship from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. The program enables Overseas Trained Doctors to provide general practitioner services in rural and remote areas for which Medicare rebates are available.
